Are you 23 or older and still suffering from breakouts?? Well, you are not alone.

About half of adult females and a quarter of adult males will suffer breakouts from time to time during their adult lives. I am part of this statistic and hate every embarrassing minute of it. We all expect a few blemishes when we were going through our awkward teen years, but not in our adult lives.

If you are like me, you may have spent many hours in a dermatologist office through out the years and spent hundreds of dollars trying to prevent and ‘cure’ your adult acne. Within the past year, my health insurance decided not to cover all the expensive creams I have been using which means I would have to pay full price out of pocket. The cost of both creams use to run me $60, the increase cost is a little over $200. Can you imagine spending that much every couple of months just to clear up a few blemishes and help prevent new ones? There are plenty of other things I can use that money for so I stopped re-filling my prescription. Naturally, my blemishes started to come back.

Being an Avon Representative I knew I had some of the best skin care products at my finger tips, but I never realized there were products especially formulated for blemished “Adult” skin. After a little bit of research and learning a bit more about Avon Solutions: True Pore-Fection, I realized I had to give this line of products a chance.
A couple of weeks ago I purchased the following products and made them part of my morning and evening routine:

True Pore-Fection Gel Cleanser: This contains salicylic acid to treat and help prevent breakouts without over drying. I use this cleanser in the AM and PM.

True Pore-Fection Toner: This toner to help reduce oiliness and reduce the size of your pores. I use this twice a day, following the cleanser. If you are oily in just the “T” zone, use the toner only in that area. You do not want create other problems and over-dry your skin.

True Pore-Fection Lotion: This light moisturizer helps prevent blemishes with salicylic acid. The bottle recommends using this three times a day, but I only use this at night and cleansing and toning.

True Pore-Fection Mask: This mask will help reduce oiliness as well as reduce the size of large pores. I use this at least three times a week.

AVON SOLUTIONS Hydra Radiance Moisturizing Day Lotion SPF15: Even though you are trying to prevent breakouts your skins stills needs to be moisturized daily. Without moisturizer our skin can become too dry which can lead to dull skin as well as premature fine lines and wrinkles. This particular moisturizer is light weight and contains SPF 15. I use this moisturizer in the AM only.

After following this regimen for a week or so, I have seen an improvement in the clarity of my skin without over drying or dulling of the skin. I highly recommend all of these products to any adult, male or female, who wants to looks their best all the time.

Don’t forget, if you are a parent of a teen with acne or your are a teen suffering from acne, Avon has an entire skincare line just for you… ClearSkin.

Patrick Dempsey in New Perfume Deal with Avon

Award-winning actor Patrick Dempsey has teamed up with Avon to create a signature men’s perfume set to debut in Novemebr 2008.

Avon announced yesterday that it has signed Dempsey in the multi-year pact in what would be the star’s first ever foray into the fragrance industry. Sources say that he could be guaranteed $5 million to $6 million over three years for the campaign which will go global next year.

Dempsey will be creative director of the project, while his wife makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, has been Avon’s global creative color director since 2006.

“This will be arguably the strongest franchise in the company’s history,” said Andrea Jung, chairman and CEO of Avon. “”We’re extremely impressed with both his on and off screen accomplishments, and have a shared commitment to giving back to communities in ways both big and small.

We applaud his efforts earlier this month to open the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing in Maine, and look forward to exploring future collaboration opportunities with our Avon Foundation.”

“This is an extremely exciting opportunity for me to work with Avon — a brand I have long respected as a global powerhouse with a lot of heart and soul,” said Dempsey.

Dempsey, 41, has won the Screen Actors Guild Award 2007 and People’s Choice Award 2007 for his role as Dr. Shepherd on the ABC TV serial, Grey’s Anatomy. Come May 2, we will see him on the big screen in the romantic comedy Made of Honor.

Avon is the world’s largest direct seller with outlets in more than 100 countries and has a $10 billion annual revenue. Besides perfumes, its product range includes cosmetics, fashion jewelry and apparel.

Lisa Snowdon for Avon’s New Curves...

Supermodel Lisa Snowdon, “Britain’s Next Top Model” presenter, is the new face and body of Avon’s new lingerie range.

The 36-year-old TV presenter and singer, also titled “the British Tyra Banks”, displayed her knockout figure in a series of campaigns for Avon’s new larger bra cup size lingerie. She also attrated attention as the girlfriend of Hollywood actor George Clooney.

“When flicking through the lingerie racks in department stores, I find the prettier, delicate bras stop at a D cup!” said Snowdon. “This can be very frustrating for us bigger busted women.”

Snowdon has graced the covers of some top-end fashion magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Elle. She has also been the face of Neutrogena recently.

'Bond Girl 007' Fragrance

British actress Gemma Arteron, who plays Agent Fields in the Bond 22 movie “Quantum of Solace”, has been chosen by Avon to launch the new James Bond Franchise signature fragrance ‘Bond Girl 007′.

Anticipated as what will be the biggest global fragrance launch of the year, Bond Girl 007 is created by Firmenich and contains floral notes, warm woods, white peach, orange blossom, jasmine, calypso orchid and freesia.

While “Quantum of Solace” is scheduled for a November 2008, ‘Bond Girl 007′ is thoughtfully set up to hit the retailers a month earlier.

So what does the new 22-year-old Bond babe have to say about this signature perfume?

“I’m thrilled to be working with two such iconic and established brands,” said Gemma Arterton. “The Bond Girl 007 fragrance embodies everything a Bond Girl represents — intelligence, sexiness and confidence.”

Intelligence, sexiness and confidence, huh. Explosive combo there.

Okay, here’s what I think about the name of the perfume. Bond Girl 007. So which kind of girl–or woman–are Avon targeting? I’d eat airline food to find out what they found in their survey.

Would the typical customer would be the wanna-be Bond girl yet in her teens or the blissfully married 30’s woman, who’s looking back and wondering what she might have missed out?

What do you think? I’d love to know, so would all my readers.

The Fastest Way to Smooth Away Pillow Creases on Your Face...

Splash warm water on your skin, then massage in a moisturizer. Skin cells contain fluid that acts as a cushion to keep the skin plump. When you’re lying with your face smushed into a pillow for eight hours, that fluid seeps out of cells and is absorbed by your body. “This leads to creases,” says Lydia Evans, a dermatologist in Chappaqua, New York. Once you get out of bed, skin cells will gradually plump up with fluid. The warm water speeds this along by enhancing blood flow to the area, and moisturizer rehydrates it. Massaging the moisturizer in helps to smooth creases away manually.

Quick Tip:

Sleep on a smooth-fitting satin pillowcase instead of a cotton one. Satin won’t bunch up under your skin, so you may be spared morning creases. (It will not, however, eliminate long-term wrinkles.)

The Fastest Way to Dry Hair...

Blow-dry from underneath, starting with the underlayers. “If you start drying your hair with the top layer, you end up scooping up wet hair from underneath and pulling it through the brush, rewetting the layers that are already dry” says Inez Gray, owner of the Habitude Salon and Spa. First apply mousse, which will coat the hair shafts and prevent them from absorbing more water. Then flip your head over, or clip the top up, and aim the dryer at the bottom layers first. Once the bottom layers are dry, use a brush to help dry and smooth the top layers. This technique will cut drying time by about a third.

Quick Tip:

Don’t blow-dry sopping-wet hair — you’ll need to use high heat, which will lead to damage. Blot with a microfiber or terry towel first.

Quick Tip:

To make your blow-dry even speedier, choose a dryer with at least 1,800 watts. A high-powered dryer gets the job done in less time than a lower-wattage one.

The Fastest Way to Grow Out a Bad Haircut...

Sadly, there’s no fast way to grow out a bad haircut. That said, there are things you can do to minimize the nightmare until your hair grows back (which it does at a rate of about half an inch a month). First try washing and restyling your hair yourself, since the way a stylist does your hair can make it look worse than it really is, says Eric Fisher, owner of the Eric Fisher Salon, in Wichita, Kansas. Then rely on accessories to help you through the growing-out phase. A headband or a barrette can hold back too-short bangs, and a ponytail or a loose bun can camouflage too-flippy layers.

Quick tip:

If you’re really unhappy with a cut, voice your dissatisfaction to the salon manager that day. Ask for a different stylist, who can help reshape the cut. Most managers will be happy to oblige.

The Fastest Way to Repair a Torn Nail...

Patch it with a tea bag!
Nails can tear for many reasons:
They’re weak; they’re soft; they’ve been soaking in water for too long, which softens them further. Whatever the cause, cut a tiny piece of paper from a tea bag (it should be big enough to cover the entire tear), apply a bead of nail glue to the paper (Krazy Glue works in a pinch), then press it on top of the tear, says Essie Weingarten, founder of Essie Cosmetics. Allow the glue to dry, then gently file the top of the paper so that it is smooth and flush with the nail. Finish with a layer of base coat, two coats of nail polish, and a topcoat.

Quick Tip:

Wear rubber gloves when washing dishes or using cleaning products. Water and chemicals can weaken nails and make them more likely to tear.

The Fastest Way to Depuff Eyes...

“Wrap a bag of frozen vegetables in a thin towel and place it over your eyes for 10 minutes,” says Debra Luftman, a cosmetic dermatologist. A night of sipping Champagne or eating salty foods can lead to fluid retention around the eyes. The cold of the bag stimulates circulation under the eyes, which helps bring down that fluid. (Why a bag of vegetables? Because it conforms to the contours of the face. Peas or corn works best.) A soft washcloth soaked in cool chamomile tea will also do the trick, since chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties.

Quick Tip #1:

If you know you’ll be drinking alcohol or eating salty foods, be sure to drink lots of water. You’ll be less likely to puff out the next morning.

Quick Tip #2:

To help prevent puffy eyes, prop up your head on two pillows when you go to sleep. Gravity is your friend when it comes to fluid retention.

The Fastest Way to Minimize a Facial Flush...

Place a cool, wet towel on the back of your neck. “When your face flushes during exercise, it’s a normal physiological response to your body overheating,” says Lydia Evans, a dermatologist in Chappaqua, New York. “Your blood vessels dilate and increase blood flow to the surface of the skin to cool it, which gives it that red appearance.” A cold towel on the back of the neck constricts those blood vessels, numbs the nerve endings there, and helps lower your body temperature quickly, says Debra Luftman, a cosmetic dermatologist in Beverly Hills. Splashing cold water on your face will have the same effect.

Quick tip:

Carry a spray bottle filled with cold water to the gym. When you feel your face getting warm, spritz it with water. This will help keep the redness to a minimum.

The Fastest Way to Dry Nail Polish

Dunk your hands in a bowl of ice-cold water. “The cold water freeze-dries polish, sealing and hardening it quickly,” says Belinda Rivera, a nail specialist in Austin, Texas. Allow nails to air-dry for two minutes, then submerge in ice-cold water for three minutes, which is enough time for the polish to harden completely. Another option: Blast nails with cool air from a hair dryer in between coats. This helps each layer of color dry as you go.

Quick Tip:

Old nail polish can take forever to dry, since time can turn polish gooey and thick. Toss bottles when the polish begins to change color or separate. At that point, the lacquer has probably thickened and become unusable.

Applying Eye Shadow For Day and Night

Pencil Eyeliner
Eyeliner sponge application or small cosmetic brush
Light colored eye shadow
Dark colored eye shadow
Eyeshadow brush
Mascara – black

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Apply the eyeliner to the top lid at the base of your eyelashes. I have found the inner eye to outer eye motion the easiest and most accurate.

Lightly apply the liner to the bottom lid at the base of the eyelashes. Do not let this line be heavier than the top line.

Use a sponge applicator or small cosmetic brush to soften (smudge) the liner on the top and bottom lid.

Sweep the light color shadow across the lid and brow bone.

Apply the darker shadow in the crease of the eye lid. Blend the dark shadow with the lighter shadow at outer corner of the lid.

Apply mascara. (optional, curl your lashes before applying)

For the day time, I try to use natural colors: brown eyeliner, cream colored shadow with dark brown.

For the evening time, I grab my black eyeliner, white/off-white shadow for my light shade and my black/gunmetal for the dark shade with a hint of shimmer.

Avon Cosmetics - The Leader In Women’s Cosmetics

Avon cosmetics are manufactured by the Avon Products, Inc. corporation. Avon produces perfume, cosmetics and even toys with markets in over 135 countries around the world. Avon has annual sales of $7.74 billion around the world. Avon’s CEO and company chairman is Andrea Jung, who in 1999 was promoted to the position.

Today, Avon’s’ fastest growing markets are in Russia and China. Though Avon has traditionally been and continues to primarily be a direct-sales company, in places like China most sales happen in retail stores. Door to door selling was banned in China during the 1990s, but this hasn’t seemed to slow Avon sales in China.

Avon cosmetics are not just for women, though traditionally women have been the target market for Avon products. There are also Avon products that are geared toward men and their skin care needs. Avon has also been seeing profits from their children’s products, including toys and basic toiletries such as shampoo and bubble bath.

More recently, Avon came out with two new brands, “M” and “mark”. M is an Avon catalogue and line of products for men. Mark is an Avon line targeted to younger, college aged women (18-
25). The Mark product line has been very successful and features a monthly ‘magalog’ that showcases the latest and most popular Avon cosmetics and other products geared toward younger cosmetics shoppers.

Beyond commercial pursuits, the Avon corporation is also invested in various philanthropic causes that are mostly focused on health and women’s empowerment issues. Some of the biggest campaigns launched or participated in by Avon involve breast cancer, domestic violence and global issues.

To find out more about Avon cosmetics, corporation history or philanthropic ventures, take a look ath their official website found at http://www.youravon.com/reginabarnes.

Purchasing Avon Cosmetics Online...

Using the Internet is a nice way to shop for your Avon cosmetics. Avon is a reputable cosmetic company that doesn’t sell off brands that will damage your face with low quality cosmetics. Neither do they sell their old over stocked cosmetics either. The benefits of buying Avon cosmetics online are numerous, and most of all it’s so easy to do. Check out why it’s good to sit back and buy online.

When you buy Avon beauty products onlineyou’re not limited in terms of choice. There are many online companies that often have a wider choice than what they’ll carry in stores. Great bargains can be found too, whereas in the store, prices remain pretty much the same. Even if you find sale prices on makeup when shopping, they’ll often be older, and you’ll need to think about what they’ll do to your skin. Avon cosmetics online get rid of stock quickly, and rotate them out, so you’re guaranteed freshness.

Benefits on price do extend to Internet buying because the prices are simply less expensive. They’re just naturally cheaper because they produce, or buy the makeup in bulk. An enticement to buy Avon cosmetics online is that you’ll often get special surprises included with an order. It could be a new makeup, or even small gifts for the holidays, or a discount on products from other companies. Retail stores don’t often offer this type of bargain except at Christmas, but Avon does this all the time.

Another benefit is that if you’re in a hurry with other things in life, or if you’re ill, you can have your items delivered with next day shipping. Granted, it will cost a little more for the convenience of having them delivered. It’s offset by not having to hassle with crowds, parking or weather extremes. Because the Avon cosmetics can be ordered via the Internet, you’ll often find that money back issues are dealt with promptly. You’ll probably get a 30 day money back promise if anything is wrong with the things you’ve purchased.

Some companies will give you free shipping if you buy a certain quantity. It’s more expensive, but you won’t have to reorder so soon, and over the long run you’ll save money with cosmetics online. In today’s market it’s safe to order with companies that sell cosmetics online because there are secure shopping carts and encryption when using your credit card or e-check. The ease and flexibility is great when buying with an online company.

Remember, it doesn’t matter what type of makeup you use, as long as it’s back by a quality company like Avon cosmetics. You know your own individual beauty needs for makeup, so go on the Internet and check out all of the Avon cosmetics online that you can find. Who knows, you just might find other types of makeup that will make your face look beautiful and refreshed.

Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System

Dermabrasion is traditionally a clinical treatment to remove the upper surface of the skin and would normally only be carried out by a professional.

However, this type of treatment has become more main stream and top beauty houses have developed their own version of a dermabrasion system for home use.

Dermabrasion is designed to improve the skin’s texture and tone, it can also help to fade age spots and minimise fine lines but in itself is not an anti ageing treatment.

Avon have introduced their own version of dermabrasion which contains Dermatologist-Grade Polishers and an Advanced Skin Conditioner that helps to keep the skin moisturised and supple while it is being treated with the abrasive cream.

Anew Beauty Lip Plumping Lip Color

If you want a lip color that performs and looks good then Avon Anew Beauty Lip Plumping Color is an excellent choice. This lipstick contains retinol and collagen to help minimise fine lines and wrinkles. Avon claims “Lips appear fuller and more youthful. Moisturises and lasts for hours”.

It is moisturising and after using for one week my lips do feel extremely soft. When wearing the lipstick the lips do look full and with prolonged use I believe this lipstick could certainly improve the texture and fine lines. There is a selection of gorgeous colours in this range. From light beige to dark browns there is even a soft purple called Mad for Mauve.

If you are not keen on lip colour or for some reason you cannot wear lip colour throughout the day then try the Anew Beauty Lip Plumping Lip Conditioner with double the amount of retinol. This again is extremely moisturising and is also suitable as a night treatment for lips.

Picking the Right Make-Up For You!!!

*Fair Skin*

If you're fair-skinned, sheer colors look best on you. Apply light earth tones and soft pastels, such as blue and lavender to accent your eyes.Various shades of pink will look good on your eyes, cheeks and lips. Keep your mascara to brown or brown/black. Light, sheer lipstick adds a finishing touch. Peach is always a good choice for our fair-skinned friends, it looks natural and compliments blonde hair.

*Medium Skin*

Your warmer completion gives you many options for a fabulous makeover. Being "in-between" does have it's benefits. Deep matte earth tones and jewel colors such as hunter green, dark grey, beige and brown will accent your eyes. Coral and plumb colors work good to accentuate your cheekbones.Experiment with your lip color. Your skin tone is very versatile and if you're brunette, anything from pink to red will look great on you. Top it off with lip gloss for extra staying power. Bronzing powder dusted over your forehead, nose and cheeks will give you the ultimate sun-kissed look

*Dark Skin*

You may need a heavier hand when applying make-up to dark skin -- but you need to choose the right shades. For eye shadow, gray, brown and natural shades will compliment your eyes. Also try shimmer colors such as silver, bronze, and terra-cotta. Experiment with mascara colors such as navy and dark purple. For blush, more pigment for darker skin is a must. Deep rose and apricot shades highlight your cheekbones beautifully. Sometimes a bronze highlighter does the trick. Stay away from anything with a strong orange base as this will not flatter your skin.Dark lip color such as apricot, blackberry, caramel and red will compliment your lips.

Try This GREAT Facial Cleanser!

ANEW Retroactive+ 2-in-1 Cleanser...this is wonderful! I personally use this product...not only does it remove make-up and cleanse face. It also contains ingredients to help you stay looking younger!

*~* Mineral Makeup *~*

AVON products

Mineral makeup is the latest in the trend in cosmetics . Mineral base makeup is made with pure minerals rather than fillers and colors, and it comes in powder, liquid or cream versions.once you get a little experience, you probably won't want to go back to ordinary makeup. Mineral foundation is weightless, and somehow manages to provide coverage while looking invisible. Mineral make up is the best cosmetic for women with acne, rosacea or other skin conditions, not only because you can control the coverage by adding thin layers, but because the ingredients are non-comedogenic and inert, less likely to cause reactions.

Brush on Hairspray...

For the final step of your blow-dry, spray hair spray onto your brush, and run it through your strands from roots to tips. This way, your do isn't so plastered and stiff but still holds volume and shine!

Powder Your Tips...

If your hairline starts to look greasy, dig up a big, fluffy makeup brush, and dip it into a pot of loose powder. Tap it once on the back of your hand to remove excess, then dust it over your roots. It mops up oil and blends into your strands, so no one will know you didn't shower!

Lip Liner Made Easy

The key to using lip liner correctly is either to match it to the color of you lips, or to choose a shade that closely matches your lipstick. If you tend to only re-apply your lipstick occasionally, it’s safer to select one that matches your skin tone, since once your lipstick has faded or worn off, you’ll end up with a ring around your lips. Rather than drawing a thick solid line, blend lip liner seamlessly into your lip by using tiny horizontal strokes to build up the color subtly. Glimmersticks Lip Liner comes in nine shades. One is sure to be a perfect match for your lips.

Take Years Off Your Eyes

Wearing too much mascara can make us look older. Heavy lashes cast shadows under the eyes, accentuating fine lines and creating dark circles. To get the right look, use an eye lash curler, which helps to make lashes naturally frame your eye. Then apply Darling Curves Waterproof Mascara. The specially designed brush defines lashes to create maximum lift and impact with the least amount of mascara.

~ Makeup Expiration Dates ~

Do you want to know when it’s time to clean out your makeup bag? Although each makeup manufacturer has a suggested expiration date for their product, below are a few suggestions as to the average shelf life of beauty products once they have been opened and used:

  • Blush 2 years
  • Cleansers 1 year
  • Eye Liners 2 years
  • Eye Shadow 2 years
  • Foundation 1 year
  • Lip Liner 2 years
  • Lipstick 2 years
  • Mascara 3 months
  • Moisturizers 1 year

Keep in mind that using expired makeup products may cause skin irritation and breakouts.

Puffy Eyes....

Puffy eyes can come as a result of many factors including allergies, alcohol consumption, smoking and fluid retention to name a few.

Here are few tips to help de-puff your puffy eyes:

  1. Reduce alcohol consumption
  2. Eat a low salt diet
  3. Sleep with your head slightly elevated to prevent fluid retention
  4. Place cool cucumbers over each of your eyes
  5. No cucumbers handy? Place a cool tea bag over each eye instead. Chamomile is relaxing and contains anti-inflammatory properties.
  6. Always remove your eye makeup before going to bed
  7. Use an eye cream. Try Avon's Anew Alternative Intensive Eye Cream. Formulated with the exclusive Multi-Fade Complex, an advanced herbaceutical fusion of Eastern healing herbs and natural botanical extracts, which stimulate microcirculation and reduce inflammation.

Tips and Tricks For Plucking Your Eyebrows

  1. Steam your eyebrows with a hot washcloth before tweezing. Or pluck right after a shower so hair comes out more easily.
  2. If skin is still too sensitive, try applying ice or a numbing toothache medicine before you begin.
  3. Draw an invisible line from the edge of your nose past the outside corner of your eye. Continue the line up to your brow to determine the outside ending point.
  4. The inside of your brow should be lined up with the inside corner of your eye.
  5. The highest part of your brow's arch should be at the outer edge of your iris.
  6. Create thin, hairlike lines with a brow pencil by using quick, short dots and dashes for a more natural look. Or apply a light application of mascara to shape and slightly darken your brow.

Should You Wear Lip Gloss?!?!?

Many women seem to have a difficult time choosing the right make up for themselves. I often see women that have foundations on that are too light or dark for their skin tone. Another mistake women make is with their lips. Many women are uncomfortable with lipstick so they either wear nothing or they put on lip gloss. For many women both options are a mistake.

Lip gloss is something that looks awful when not worn properly. Many women will purchase lip gloss that has a slight tint to it. When they apply it they often smear past the lip area due to the consistency of the gloss. This makes the lips look big and greasy. For the women that wear nothing on their lips the mouth seems to disappear off the face.

Women will claim that they choose not to wear lipstick because it runs. This problem can be solved by the use of a liner pencil. The liner pencil should be as close to the shade of lipstick a possible. Simply outline the lips with the pencil and give it a short time to set, and then apply the lipstick. The liner will keep the lipstick color from bleeding off your lip area. It is important to reapply the lipstick color after eating or drinking because the lipstick will wear off faster than the liner.

If the liner and lipstick are not an option that you want to try use an Avon lip gloss that is not tinted. A clear lip gloss will not appear as smeared as the tinted variety. The lips are very sensitive to the sun. This is another reason to wear some type of lip covering. Today most products have a built in sun screen, but it is important to check the label to insure that there is at least a fifteen level sun screen in the product you are using.

For the times that you will be spending prolonged periods in the sun it is best to use an Avon lip balm. Balms tend to stay on longer and penetrate deeper into the tissues of the skin. I will often wear a high sunscreen level lip balm under my lipstick if we are going to be boating or doing some other activity for a long period in the sun. By doing this I am assured that my lips will be protected even if my lip stick wears off. As with all sunscreen products it is important to reapply often for the best protection. Most lip gloss products do not include a sun screen. If you insist on having the shiny effect of lip gloss place it on over the balm.

Young teenage girls are the only ones that should wear lip gloss in my opinion. It is a nice option for them because it is lighter in color and it enhances their natural lip color.

Avon Self Tanners

Have you noticed that some people prefer a tan these days? Okay, that’s the understatement of the century. The fact is 90 percent of our population seems to want a tan year-round. What is it about that golden brown skin? Ever since Coco Channel came back from her vacation in the 1920’s, everyone started craving the tropical skin. Well, this fad surely hasn’t faded over the years.

The tan is as big of an epidemic as it ever was. Teenagers and adults alike yearn for that golden glow. Unfortunately tanning is not exactly healthy anymore; in fact, it never was. But now we know it, folks. Of course there is an up-side to this situation. With new technology came the plethora of self tanners. Yes indeed - you can simply buy a lotion to smear all over your body and achieve that golden brown skin.

Covering Freckles

If you’re absolutely certain you don’t love your unique distinguishing marks, experiment with these tips and techniques.
Instructions:
1: Try over-the-counter bleaching agents to lighten the freckles you’ve already earned, but know that you can’t erase them entirely.

2: Apply tinted moisturizer or foundation, if you prefer light coverage, in a shade slightly darker than your natural skin tone to blend in and downplay your freckles.

3: Slather on sunblock with an SPF rating of 15 or higher every time you go outside, even in cloudy or overcast weather. As your skin tans, so do your freckles. Self-tanners will make your skin appear darker, but they will also darken your freckles.

4: Talk to a dermatologist if you want to try stronger measures intended to eliminate freckles. Ask about the pros and cons of acid or chemical peels, lasers and various bleaching agents available only by prescription.

Tips & Warnings
Protect your skin from sun to avoid a new crop of freckles. Freckles are inherited; limiting your sun exposure is the only way to prevent them. That’s why you probably don’t have any freckles on your derriere.

Applying Your Make Up in 10 Easy Steps

Try to follow the same basic routine whenever you apply your makeup. That way, the steps to looking your best will be more organized and efficient.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Apply a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation. Dot it on over any blemishes or under-eye circles and blend with your fingertips or a makeup sponge. If your concealer tends to cake, apply eye cream first.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Choose foundation that matches your skin tone exactly. Apply it in dots over the central part of your face, then blend it out with a makeup sponge or your fingertips until it covers your entire face.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Use a loose or pressed powder to keep foundation and concealer on longer. Use pressed powder to touch up when you’re away from home.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Do your eyebrows next. Use powdered eyebrow shadow on brows instead of pencil, which can often look unnatural. Apply it with a hard, slanted brush.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Choose three colors of eye shadow: light, medium and dark. Use the dark only to line your upper eyelid, in a fairly thin line along the upper lashes. Use the medium shade for the crease and the lightest shade for the area under the eyebrow. There are many variations on eye shadow application techniques.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Apply eyeliner. Use a cake eyeliner with a damp, thin liner brush, or an eyeliner pencil, and line the lower lid below the lashes. Line only the outer two-thirds of the lower lid, or all the way across if you’re trying to achieve a darker look. Line all the way across the upper lid (just above the lash line and as close to the lashes as possible), or start the line where your lashes begin.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Apply mascara to upper and lower lashes, in two thin coats to avoid clumpiness. Choose brown mascara if your coloring is fair; black or brown-black works well for darker coloring. Or try a colored mascara such as navy or plum for fun, but don’t go too bright if you want to be taken seriously.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Smile to find the apples of your cheeks, and apply blush to the apples or below, whichever you prefer. If you have to blend in blush, it’s too bright.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Choose a lipstick color that’s suited to your skin tone and that’s perfect for your day look. You can mix colors and textures to suit your moods and your outfits.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Line lips after applying lipstick, not before. That way you won’t end up with a dark circle of lip liner after your lipstick has worn off. Avoid combining very dark lip liner and pale lipstick.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
~ Tips & Warnings ~

Follow the steps in the order given, and remember to clean and moisturize your face before applying makeup.
~ ~ ~
Choose brighter or darker tones for a stronger look.
~ ~ ~
Clean makeup brushes by gently washing them in warm water and mild gel shampoo. Air-dry them overnight.
~ ~ ~
Don’t skimp on makeup tools. High-quality tools make application easier and faster.
~ ~ ~
If you decide to curl your eyelashes, do this just before applying mascara’ never after. Insert your eyelashes into the curler, squeeze just once, and hold for a few seconds.
~ ~ ~
Bacteria can grow in older cosmetics, which can lead to infections. Be on the safe side: Toss anything that’s seems old, especially mascara, and avoid sharing products with others.

How To Apply - Foundation

Don’t forget the less you apply, the longer it will last, and better it will look!

How to apply:

Dab three dots on each cheek, two on the forehead, one on the nose and one on the chin. Then blend foundation all over the face in long, even strokes down the neck, up to the hairline. Use your fingers or sponge to apply. The following is from an article written by Professional Makeup artist - Elke Von Freudenberg

The one thing I like the least, whether it’s applying on a model, or on myself, is foundation application. Why? One, you have to get the perfect match on the first try (even more so in photography) and two, it just takes too darn long to apply.

The best time saver?

A foundation brush. A great one to try is from Avon (actually named “mark Foundation Brush”).

Or try a short round chisel cut blush brush. Just make sure that the hairs are short, soft and chisel cut (i.e. not blunt cut on the ends).

To apply, just pick up with the brush, foundation from the back of your hand, and brush down along the center of the face. Then blend outwards with your brush.

By applying with a brush, you get exactly the right amount on every time, superb blending, it feels great on your skin, and it’s quick. You can easily apply foundation alone in 2-4 minutes. A life saver.

Why does this look different?

Understand that the technique you use to apply your foundation, changes the look of it.

Pure and simple. So if you’re expecting your heavy coverage foundation to cover everything when you’re applying it with a sponge, it’s ain’t going to happen.

Why? Your technique was wrong. Below, we’ll clarify the various techniques.

Foundation: Application Techniques

There’s only so many ways to apply foundation, so let’s clarify the three main techniques:

1. Applying with your fingers

Applying with your fingers, allows your foundation to ‘blend’ into your skin for a more natural look.

Why?

The heat of your hand makes the foundation melt in more and your foundation will look more like skin.

Have a too heavy foundation?

Apply with your fingers and blend.

Fingers also give you the luxury of applying EXACTLY where you want it.

Need better coverage?

Dab on with a finger and tap. Don’t blend, it’ll come right off. By tapping, you’re pressing the foundation right where you need it.

2. Applying with a sponge

Does your foundation seem to not go on?

The culprit could be your sponge. Sponges are great for absorbing, picking up, erasing. Especially foundation. It all goes into the sponge, and not on your face, especially if you use those ‘go on like water’ foundations. (You’ll get better results using your fingers.)

Sponges are great for heavy duty cream bases, stick foundations, and oil-based foundations. You get better control over those products.

Otherwise, use sponges only to blend edges, take off too much product, or erase a product completely. Want a trick of the trade? Use your sponge to get creative with your foundations.

Want a heavier coverage?

Apply a dab of loose powder on the sponge first, then foundation, then apply. The loose powder will thicken up your base.

Want to make a oil-based foundation less oily?

Loose powder works here too to ’soak up’ more oil before you apply.

Want a summer tint?

Dampen your sponge with sunscreen first, then foundation. You have your foundation tint with SPF.

Want to make a thick stick or cream foundation thinner?

Apply with a water-dampened sponge to create a see-through color. (Tip: A water dampened sponge isn’t too friendly with the oil-based foundations. Oil and water don’t mix unfortunately.)

3. Applying with a foundation brush

Foundation brushes are getting a big plug lately, not because it’s a hip new item, but because of the control you have when you use it.

Foundation brushes don’t soak up any product, and applies the product directly on the surface of the skin, as opposed to into your skin like your fingers.

With this, you get better coverage, and you’ll be apt to use less because it’s not disappearing.

And you can easily apply more as you need it,without a caking effect. Just like a mascara wand makes mascara go on easier, so does a foundation brush.

Want foundation to adhere better?

Here’s one of my favorite photography tricks.

Dust a small amount of loose power lightly on clean or moisturized skin first. Then apply foundation as normal. You’ll get less break through shine and your base will ‘adhere’ to the powder, for longer lasting wear. Great for oily skin as well.

* * * Avon Cosmetics * * *

AVON cosmetics are manufactured by the Avon Products, Inc. corporation. Avon produces perfume, cosmetics and even toys with markets in over 135 countries around the world. Avon has annual sales of $7.74 billion around the world. Avon's CEO and company chairman is Andrea Jung, who in 1999 was promoted to the position.

Today, Avon's' fastest growing markets are in Russia and China. Though Avon has traditionally been and continues to primarily be a direct-sales company, in places like China most sales happen in retail stores. Door to door selling was banned in China during the 1990s, but this hasn't seemed to slow Avon sales in China.

Avon cosmetics are not just for women, though traditionally women have been the target market for Avon products. There are also Avon products that are geared toward men and their skin care needs. Avon has also been seeing profits from their children's products, including toys and basic toiletries such as shampoo and bubble bath.

More recently, Avon came out with two new brands, "M" and "mark". M is an Avon catalogue and line of products for men. Mark is an Avon line targeted to younger, college aged women (18-25). The Mark product line has been very successful and features a monthly 'magalog' that showcases the latest and most popular Avon cosmetics and other products geared toward younger cosmetics shoppers.

Beyond commercial pursuits, the Avon corporation is also invested in various philanthropic causes that are mostly focused on health and women's empowerment issues. Some of the biggest campaigns launched or participated in by Avon involve breast cancer, domestic violence and global issues.
